Imbucare is the Italian for the word to 'post'. Infants love to post objects into these boxes.
The Imbucare Box with Knit Ball is a material to follow on from the well known Object Permanence Box. The child builds on knowledge learned from the previous activity. He /she knows how to put the ball into the box and will firstly notice the different texture of the ball. He /she will then notice that the ball does not fall into the hole. It requires a small push, strengthening the hand.
The ball dissapears. Where has it gone?! The child has to use the three-finger grip on the knob of the drawer and pull out the drawer. And hey presto, there it is!
A child who is actively developing his /her knowledge of object permanence will repeat this activity over and over. Hand-eye coordination is refined in the process.
